Steel gate being worked on in a masonry opening on site

Metal Gate Repair in Vancouver & the North Shore

Sagging leaves, worn hinges, broken welds and cracked frames on steel and iron gates — repaired in our North Vancouver shop or on site.

A metal gate takes more abuse than almost anything else we make — it swings hundreds of times a month, sits out in the weather, and takes the occasional knock from a vehicle. When one starts to drag, rattle or refuse to latch, the frame and the hardware can usually be repaired rather than replaced. We fix steel and iron gates at our shop in North Vancouver, and on site across the North Shore and Metro Vancouver.

Common gate problems we fix

  • Gates that sag, drop or drag on the ground
  • Worn, loose or seized hinges
  • Broken welds and cracked frames or joints
  • Latches and locks that no longer line up
  • Sections bent by impact
  • Rust and corrosion, especially at the bottom rail and hinges
  • Loose posts and hardware that have worked free of their fixings

Hinges, posts and hardware

Most gate problems trace back to the hinges and the post. A heavy leaf hanging on worn hinges will always start to sag, and once it drops, the latch stops meeting its keep. We can replace worn hinges, re-hang the leaf, reinforce a post that has started to lean, and reset the latch so the gate closes cleanly again. Where a hinge or fitting is a discontinued or one-off part, we can often fabricate a replacement.

Repair or replace?

A gate is usually worth repairing when the frame is sound and the problem is a hinge, a weld, a bent section or corrosion in one area. When a gate is rusted through along the frame, or the design no longer suits the opening, a new gate can be the better long-term choice — in that case, see our custom metal gates page. We will give you an honest read on which way makes more sense for your gate.

If a new gate is the more sensible option, our pricing guide covers what a replacement gate costs so you can weigh it against the repair.

Automatic and powered gates

We repair the metal side of automated gates — the leaf, frame, hinges, posts and welds. We do not service gate operators, motors or their electronics; if the opener itself has failed, that is work for a gate-automation specialist. If you are not sure whether the problem is the metal or the motor, send us a photo and we will point you in the right direction.

On site or in the shop

A gate that can be lifted off its hinges often comes out best in the shop, where we can straighten, re-weld and refinish it properly. A large or fixed gate can usually be repaired in place through our mobile welding service. Either way, tell us whether the gate can travel or has to stay put and we will plan around it.

Gate repair is one part of our wider metal repair and restoration work.
