Industrial Metal Fabrication

Platforms, guarding, frames, brackets and repairs for plants, warehouses and yards.

Structural and Access Work

Access and support structures are the bulk of industrial fabrication, and they are unforgiving of approximation.

  • Platforms and mezzanines — for equipment access, storage and maintenance positions.
  • Stairs and ladders — including caged and fixed access to roof, tank and plant level.
  • Handrails, guards and toe boards — to code, and to your site safety standard where it is stricter.
  • Equipment frames, skids and stands — built to the equipment, not the other way around.
  • Brackets, supports and hangers — for conveyors, pipework, ducting and cable tray.

We measure on site rather than working from a general arrangement drawing that was accurate in 2011. In a working plant, what is there is almost never exactly what is on the drawing.

Machine Guarding

Guarding is one of the few things we build where getting it wrong has a consequence beyond appearance.

We fabricate fixed guards, removable panels, perimeter fencing and interlocked gate frames to suit the machine and the way it is actually accessed for maintenance. The most common failure we are called in to fix is guarding that was correct on paper and got removed within a month because it made a routine task impossible — so we would rather talk to the person who operates the machine than only to the person who ordered the guard.

Mesh, perforated sheet, polycarbonate or solid plate, depending on whether you need visibility, containment or both. Where WorkSafeBC requirements apply, we build to them.

Repairs and Retrofits

A lot of industrial work is not new — it is something that broke, wore out or was never right.

We take on repairs and retrofits: cracked frames, worn hinges and pins, corroded bases, structures that need to accept new equipment, and guarding retrofitted to machines that shipped without it. Where a piece can be repaired in place, we bring mobile welding to the site rather than pulling it out.

For anything running to a schedule, we work to shutdown windows. Tell us the window and we will confirm honestly whether the work fits inside it. A repair that overruns into production is worse than one that was scheduled properly.

Drawings and Certification

We work from your drawings where you have them and produce shop drawings where you do not, so there is a record of what was built rather than an assumption.

For load-bearing structures — platforms, mezzanines, lifting attachments, anything supporting people or equipment at height — engineering comes from a licensed professional engineer and we fabricate to the sealed drawings. We will tell you at the first conversation when a job requires that, and we will not build a load-bearing structure without it.

Where material traceability matters, we source with mill certs. Where welding procedure or welder qualification needs to be documented for your QA, ask at quoting and we will confirm what we can provide before you commit.
