Lockable Menu and Notice Cases

Indoor steel display cases with glazed, lockable doors for menus and notices, made to your sheets and your wall.

TrussMetal is a metal fabrication shop in North Vancouver that works across Metro Vancouver. This page is for restaurants and cafés that post a menu inside the entrance, and for strata councils, property managers, offices and schools that post notices in a lobby or amenity room. Catalogue cases come in set sizes and finishes; a made case is sized to the sheets you actually post, fits the wall or space you have, and matches the other metal in the room.

Cases on this page are for indoor locations: lobbies, vestibules, corridors, amenity rooms and the inside of a restaurant entrance.

Case Types

Wall-mounted cases

A shallow steel case with a glazed, lockable door, fixed to an interior wall in a lobby, vestibule, corridor or restaurant entrance.

Floor-standing cases

A case held between two steel posts on base plates, for an indoor space with no suitable wall, where fixing to the floor is approved.

Notice cases

Wider cases for strata lobbies, amenity rooms, offices and schools, with a steel back panel for magnets or a pin board behind the glazing.

Sized to your sheets

Made to the menu or notice format you use and the number of sheets on show, and to the wall or space it has to fit.

This page covers physical cases for printed menus and notices. Merchandising displays for shops are on retail display fixtures, and frames and mounting structures for panel signs on commercial metal fabrication. Address signs and house numbers, illuminated cases and anything wired, digital screens and signage, freestanding sidewalk signs, and aluminum or stainless steel cases are not part of this page.

Glazing, Doors, Locks and Backing

Glazing
Clear acrylic or polycarbonate sheet, or glass supplied by a glazier, chosen for the size of the door and how the case is used. Polycarbonate is the tougher plastic; acrylic is clearer but more brittle; glass needs a heavier door frame. No glazing is described as tested or impact-rated.
Hinges
A continuous hinge along one edge, or separate hinges, chosen for the door’s size and weight and how far it has to open.
Lock
A keyed lock keeps the door shut and stops casual removal of what is inside. Several cases can be keyed alike. A case is not a security product and has no security rating.
Backing
Painted steel for magnets, a pin board, or a ledge for menus to stand on.
Steel and finish
Steel case and door frame, powder coated by a specialist applicator.

Glazing, hinges, locks and backing are bought in for each job and are not held in stock. The exact parts are selected for the case’s dimensions and use and confirmed before the order is accepted.

Mounting and Approvals

Concrete and masonry walls
Fixed with anchors chosen for the wall. Where a wall may contain services or reinforcement that matters, the location is confirmed or scanned before drilling.
Stud walls
Fixed into studs or blocking, never drywall alone.
Floor-standing
Posts on base plates fixed to the floor where fixing is approved. How a floor-standing case stays stable, and the anchors it needs for the floor it stands on, are settled for the actual case before the order is accepted. Where the floor cannot be fixed into, a floor-standing case is not offered.
Approvals
Get the landlord’s or strata’s approval before ordering.

Outdoor Cases: Enquiry Only

Cases exposed to the weather are not part of the standard offer. You can ask about one as a separate enquiry. Whether a case is suitable outside depends on the whole assembly working together, including the glazing, door, hinges, lock, seals, drainage, fixings and finish, not on the coating alone, so we make no weatherproof or weather-resistant claim for any case. An outdoor case may also need a sign permit from the municipality.

Who Does What

Responsibilities that affect the quote

TrussMetal: the steel case, door frame, brackets or posts, the finish through a specialist applicator, and fitting the bought-in parts once they are confirmed. Fitting on site can be quoted; see installation.

Owner, landlord or strata: approvals, permission to drill, the content of the case and who holds the keys.

Others: glass from a glazier where glass is chosen; any electrical work.

For multi-unit orders, a first-unit sample and approval stage can be included in the quote. Its cost and schedule are set out in that quote.

Questions

Can you make a case for our menu size?

Yes. Send the sheet size, how many sheets are on show, and photos of the wall or space where it will go.

Can a case go outside?

Not as a standard item. It can be discussed as a separate enquiry, with no weatherproof claim; suitability depends on the whole assembly.

Can several cases use the same key?

Yes, where the lock selected for the job can be keyed alike.

Can it be lit?

Illuminated cases are not part of this page.
