Finishes and Samples
You are presenting to a client. You should have the metal in your hand, not a photograph of it.
We provide physical samples on the actual material — powder coat sprayed on the steel section your piece will use, stainless brushed in the direction the grain will run, brass at the stage of patina you are specifying, blackened steel finished the way it will arrive. Samples are yours to keep and to leave with the client.
The finishes we are asked for most: matte and satin black powder coat, bronze and champagne tones, blackened and waxed steel, brushed and bead-blast stainless, and unlacquered brass left to age. For anything unusual, send us the reference image and we will match it or tell you honestly that we cannot.
One caution worth repeating to clients: metal finishes read differently at scale and under the actual lighting. A 50mm chip is a decision made twice. For feature work, ask us for a larger sample.
Lead Times
We will give you a real date, and we would rather lose a job than give you a date we cannot hold.
Lead time depends on the piece, the finish and where the shop is booked, so it is set at quoting rather than published as a promise. What we can tell you now is what tends to stretch it: multi-stage finishes, anything requiring galvanising before coating, brass work with hand patination, and glass — which is ordered to the frame after the frame is built, not alongside it.
If you are working to an install date or a photography date, tell us at the start. We schedule backwards from it, and we will tell you at the consultation if it does not work.
Custom Furniture and Feature Work
The pieces designers come to us for are usually the ones nobody stocks.

- Fireplace surrounds, hearth trim and firewood storage
- Interior stair guards, handrails and balustrade infill
- Bed frames, benches, plinths and vanity bases
- Screens, room dividers and steel-framed internal doors
- Feature lighting frames and mounting structures
Where a piece pairs metal with timber, stone or glass, we fabricate the metal and coordinate the rest so you are not managing three trades to get one object.
Working to Your Drawings
Send whatever you have. A dimensioned drawing is ideal, a sketch with intent is workable, and a reference photograph with the dimensions you need is enough to start.
We will come back with a shop drawing showing what we propose to build, including the details that were not in your drawing because they are ours to solve — how it fixes, how it takes load, how the joints resolve. You approve that, and the price is fixed against it.
Where your design and the physics disagree, you will hear it at drawing stage with a proposed alternative, not after your client has approved a rendering. That is the part of this we take most seriously: the piece that arrives should look like the one you presented.
